The 28th annual Great Reno Balloon Race got underway this past weekend, with more than 100 balloons participating this year.
Organizers say a record number of people, which they estimate was around 175,000, attended the three-day event in Nevada.
"I feel very fortunate. We've had sponsors step up. We've had lots of donations and in-kind donations," said event manager Dixie Craig.
Some even showed up early in their pajamas to see the Glow Show and the mass ascension of hot air balloons.
"I really enjoy the Glow Show. I think that makes it worth getting here," said Reno resident Marge O'Berg. "Seeing that line up of them, up in the sky, all lit up. I think that's worth it."
The Reno Gazette Journal reports that a local pastor offered a prayer for the pilots' safety at the event.
