After growing complaints, U.S. Capitol police have replaced three tattered flags flying over several government office buildings.
Photos of the damaged flags were published in the Washington Times this week.
The office buildings are where members of Congress and their aides work every day, and are visited by thousands of tourists each year.
The paper quoted several tourists saying they were offended by the flags' tattered appearance.
Reporter Amanda Carpenter noticed the damaged flags and wrote the article.
