The man who gunned down a Kansas abortion doctor in the back of a church last May will face life in prison.
The Kansas judge pointed out that 52-year-old Scott Roeder had, "firmly held and honestly believed convictions," but he broke the law and must face the consequences.
The Kansan, Mo. man was convicted of shooting and killing George Tiller, one of the few U.S. doctors who performed partial birth abortions.
As the judge handed down the sentence Thursday, Roeder appeared to show no remorse and even defended his actions saying he'd obeyed God's law to save the unborn.
"I stopped him so he could not dismember another innocent baby," Roeder said. "Wichita is a far safer place for unborn babies without George Tiller."
As he was led from the court room Roeder shouted, "Blood of babies on your hands."
Roeder will not be eligible for parole for parole for 51 years and eight months.
