Vice President Joe Biden kicked off the annual Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride at the White House Wednesday.
Before the race, Biden thanked the injured troops for the sacrifices they've made for America.
"You define who we are as a country," the vice president said. "You are the heart, the soul and the spine. You not only let us know what we should be, you've shown us that we can be anything we want to be."
He added that they were the heart, soul and spine of the nation.
"As you circle this lawn and ride out of the White House gate, know that we will be cheering for you every mile of your journey," said the vice president's wife, Dr. Jill Biden.
Over 50 wounded warriors are taking part in the three-day ride through the nation's capital and Maryland.
The race ends this weekend at the United States Naval Academy.
