An atheist group which opposes a Nativity scene in the state rotunda in Jackson, Miss., is striking back.

The Freedom from Religion group has put up a sign close by that says, "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

Some Mississippi citizens find the sign offensive, but not the Christian whose private group put up the Nativity scene.

"If you know the same Jesus that I know, he doesn't teach anywhere that we need to hate," said Justin Barnard, chairman of the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation. "He specifically says, 'Love those that come against you."'

Barnard said he harbors no ill will against the atheist group for putting up its anti-religion sign next to his group's Nativity scene.

Local resident Ann Curry said she is opposed to removing the Nativity scene. She said she believes it's a constitutional right.

"I realize that there are other religions in our country, and I realize that we are all protected, thank God, by the Constitution for freedom of worship," Curry said.
