Texas Congregants Worship Despite Church Fires

Arson investigators are searching for three men in connection with church fires in east Texas. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms have released sketches of the three persons of interest in the case.

Ten churches have burned down since the new year began. However, that is not keeping congregations from worshipping.

"It does something to you every time you walk in our destroyed building and every time you hear of another one burning," said Pastor Shane Barnes of Grace Community Baptist Church in Athens.

"And now we feel that God wants us to really do the work that his church ought to be doing, loving, sharing and caring for our community and our world," said Pastor John E. Green of Lake Athens Baptist Church. "And we certainly look forward to the day when they no longer are free to burn churches."

Church members across east Texas are volunteering around the clock to keep watch over their buildings.
