A California teen not old enough to drive a car around the block has decided to sail around the world.
Sixteen-year-old Abby Sunderland of Marina Del Rey, Calif. set out Saturday to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone.
She'll be out to sea for six months on her 40 foot boat named, "Wild Eyes." The vessel is stocked with pre-packaged meals and high-tech equipment - including a satellite phone.
Her parents, both sailors, are comfortable with Abby's decision and know she will be covered in prayer.
"It's great to have them all praying for me. A lot of my trip just started with us all praying whether or not it was the Lord's will for me to go," Abby said.
"I'm starting from here, Marina Del Rey, head out west and then go down south straight around Cape Horn, through the Southern Ocean, around the bottom of Australia and new Zealand, then back up," she explained. "To me, it's one of the greatest challenges there is."
If she is successful, she'll bump the current record holder - a 17 year old from Britain.
