A Washington state couple has found a way to help the environment and pay for their upcoming wedding.
After Andrea Parrish and Peter Geyer of Spokane, Wash., got engaged last October they wondered how they were going to pay for the wedding of their dreams.
Parrish came up with an idea to recycle and turn in soft drink cans for cash. She started the Web site WeddingCans.com, hoping others would donate their empty cans too.
"We're shooting for 400,000 cans, which equals about five tons of aluminum cans," Parrish said. "[It's] a lot of cans, but again I have faith in exactly how crazy people are and how crazy of an idea it might be and that it could work."
Parrish said aluminum cans bring in about 38 cents a pound.
The couple hopes to collect enough cans for the $5,000 they need for their July wedding. They also have a Facebook page and Twitter account to get the word out.
