The Washington state couple who came up with a clever way to help the environment and pay for their July wedding is closer to reaching their goal.
Andrea Parrish and Peter Geyer of Spokane, Wash., are recycling and turning in aluminum cans for cash to help pay for their wedding. Through their "Wedding Cans" Web site they also asked others to donate money from recycling their cans.
This week, the aluminum manufacturing company Alcoa made a very generous donation of 150,000 cans to the couple's cause. At current recycling rates, the cans are worth about $1,700.
With the donation, Parish and Geyer say they are about 65 percent closer to their $5,000 goal.
