The parking spaces below the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., are some of the most coveted parking spots on earth - which makes it particularly irritating to some that one former congresswoman has been allowing her car sit there apparently abandoned.
Four years after former Rep. Melissa Hart, R-Pa. was voted out of office, a car still owned by her remains parked and covered with dirt in the congressional Longworth House Office Building parking garage located on Capitol Hill.
All elected members of Congress receive one of the prized parking spaces for free. They even retain the right to use them for no charge when they become ex-congressmen unless they become lobbyists - like Hart. Her derelict vehicle has been taking up a valuable parking space for four years and has also been parked illegally.
When a news reporter informed her of the trespass, Hart said she didn't know about the lobbyist rule and that she would donate the car to charity in order to have it removed from the congressional parking lot.
So far, the former congresswoman owes an estimated $23,000 in parking fees.
