A Pennsylvania woman has social networking to thank for her new kidney.
Sarah Taylor had been on a transplant waiting list for the past year so she decided to post her need on Facebook.
Within two weeks, 197 people offered to help.
Taylor says she never expected a Facebook "friend request" to save her life.
"I didn't think I'd get any response and it was so funny to see how many responses I got... I couldn't wait to wake up the next morning and check my email," Taylor recalled.
Sara Steelman -- the eventual kidney donor -- ironically lives two blocks from Taylor.
"I didn't realize until the Facebook post that there was the possibility of becoming a donor for Sarah and that she needed one," Steelman said.
Taylor's surgeon, Dr. Ngoc Thai, added that online efforts are becoming a trend in getting the word out for those in need.
"It's a wave of the future," he said. "A lot of people now get info and communicate through the Internet and Facebook. So I think we can't stop it."
