The military says two people were taken into custody after they tried to gain access to MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa, Fla. early Monday morning in an sports utility vehicle loaded with weapons.
MacDill is the home of the U.S. Central Command, which is the command center for the operation of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Base security searched the vehicle when the pair failed to show proper identification at the gate. They discovered rifles, ammunition and military gear, but no explosives.
The occupants of the vehicle -- a man and a woman -- were arrested. The suspects' names were not released.
Base officials said the incident is being investigated and the base is operating normally.
