A young Pakistani-American has been convicted of terrorism charges and will spend the next 15 years in prison.
New Yorker Syed Hashmi helped an al Qaeda operative supply equipment to militants in Afghanistan. He was arrested in 2006 at a London airport trying to board a flight to Pakistan.
"Mr. Hashmi knew exactly what he was doing and where that equipment stored in his apartment was going," U.S. District Court Judge Loretta Preska said.
Hashami said his dedication to his faith is the reason he chose to help his fellow Muslims.
Preska said the harsh sentence was intended to send a message to any American thinking of joining or helping al Qaeda.
