New complaints are being voiced from Toyota owners who say their cars are still accelerating out of control even after being recalled and repaired.
The Transportation Department has received at least 10 reports of the recall not working.
"I almost got into a serious accident after the fix was done," Toyota owner Steward Stogel said. "I was saved only by a few feet and about a second going down an embankment and smashing into a brick wall."
But on Capitol Hill this week, Toyota executives claimed they have gotten to the bottom of the problem.
"Toyota engineers have developed effective and durable solutions for the vehicles we have recalled," Yoshimi Inaba, president of Toyota Motor North America, said.
Toyota has recalled more than 7 million cars because of accelerator problems. At least 50 deaths have been linked to the issue.
