On Friday, the Social Security Administration released its list of last year's top 10 most popular baby names.
For the 11th consecutive year Jacob was the top name for boys in 2009. Isabella was the most popular name for girls, with the name Emma slipping to no. 2.
"People seem to be a little bit more creative, inventive and flexible with their daughters' names," said Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue. "With boys, I think we tend to be a little bit more consistent. The names don't change quite as much."
Apparently religious themes and pop culture influenced many of the names selected by parents.
Other popular names were Emma, Olivia and Sophia for girls and Ethan, Michael, and Alexander for boys.
