As British Petroleum struggles to stop the spill in the Gulf, the company is also receiving a lot of suggestions from people around the country. About 10,000 people a day are calling in tips to help stop the leak.
Recently, several residents in Lafayette, La. recently chipped in their two cents worth. One person suggested using towels in order to clean the oil from the sea water. Another suggested using disposable diapers. And another even suggested using a popular cleaning towel known as Sham Wows that are sold on television infomercials to soak up all the oil out of the Gulf.
While Sham Wows might not be the most inspired idea, one Louisiana minister says he knows how those cleanup crews can get inspired. They need to pray.
"It will help them to be open to creative ideas that came from God because all good things come from God," said Keith Derouen, pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
Derouen said the power of prayer will not only help find a solution, it also gives people a sense of serenity in the midst of even the worst disasters.
Another local bishop agrees with Derouen. He has requested all parishes in the Diocese begin a special prayer for the oil disaster.
