The Vermont Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the non-biological mother in a lesbian custody case involving a child.
The court rejected an appeal by attorneys for the girl's biological mother Lisa Miller.
She was joined to Janet Jenkins in a civil union in Vermont in 2000. After the couple broke up, Miller renounced her homosexuality and became a Christian.
Her daughter has been the subject of a long-running legal fight.
Miller and the child failed to appear in court back in January and their whereabouts remain unknown.
