News of Rev. David Wilkerson's death raced across social networking sites as hundreds expressed their grief over the loss of the man many considered to be a spiritual giant of the faith.
Memories and prayers honoring Wilkerson's legacy flooded Twitter and Facebook as Christians learned of his passing.
Wilkerson founded Times Square Church, World Challenge and Teen Challenge. He died in a head-on collision in East Texas Wednesday afternoon. He was 79.
"Dad’s 60-plus years of ministry have impacted the lives of those closest to him and extended to millions around the world," his son, Gary Wilkerson, writes in his blog.
"Today we feel a personal loss," the blog read. "But at the same time we rejoice knowing Dad lived life to the fullest, obeying God with devotion and loving Jesus radically." Read more of Gary Wilkerson's blog here.
David Wilkerson's wife, Gwendolyn, 70, was injured and rushed to a local hospital. She is in fair condition and expected to recover, according to the Times Square Church website.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. ET at Times Square Church in Manhattan, N.Y. Doors will open to the public at 12 p.m. CBNNews.com will be streaming the service live, beginning at 2 p.m.
