The U.S. Army has approved an atheist-themed concert at its Fort Bragg, N.C. base.
Sgt. Justin Griffith, director of American Atheists and the concert's organizer, said the move was a great opportunity for troops who aren't religious.
"There is no going back in to the 'atheist closet,'" he told the Associated Press. "We're going to be supported on post for the first time."
A Fort Bragg spokesman says the post will offer the same support for this event as it did for a Christian concert last year. That event was organized by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
The atheist concert, called "Rock Beyond Belief," is scheduled to take place March 31 on the eve of Palm Sunday. Well-known atheist Richard Dawkins will be among those appearing.
