New Joplin Mural Points to Hope, Future

Roughly three months after a tornado destroyed the city of Joplin, Mo., one resident is using art as a way to offer hope and healing to her community.

Daria Clairborne commissioned local artist Annabell Fuhr to paint a mural a tribute to those who died in the storm and to those who survived and are still trying to recover.

"I grew up in Joplin and in fact I was homeless for a period of time and any kind of public art just kind of struck a chord with me and brought me closer to home it felt," Fuhr said.

Fuhr is painting the mural on the retaining walls of Clairborne's home, located on the 3400 block of Finley in Joplin.

"I think it's important to beautify the neighborhood and your community in any way that you can. If not through a smile, then a beautiful piece of artwork," Fuhr said.
