Hundreds of people gathered in Orange County, Calif. on Sunday to protest a fundraiser held by what they called radical Islamists who support terrorism.
The New Jersey-based Islamic Circle of North America held the benefit in the conservative community of Yorba Linda, Calif.
"You're messing with Americans now. We're not England. We're not British, we're Americans," one protester yelled.
ICNA spokesman Waqas Syed said the event was solely designed to raise money to fight homelessness.
"We have no links to any overseas organization. We absolutely denounce violence and terrorism," Syed said.
"There is absolutely no basis to the fact that we are connected to terrorist organizations or any terrorist activities," he added.
However, protesters said that the one of the keynote speakers, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, was named as a co-conspirator in the World Trade Center bombing.
"He has said specifically he is in favor of Sharia law and stoning of women," Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., said.
The other speaker, Amir Abdel Malik Ali, has reportedly supported the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
"These people are known terrorist instigators, not even terrorist sympathizers," conservative activist Deborah Pauly said.
