Rather than taking up an offering during Sunday service, Freedom Church in Acworth, Ga. gave out envelopes containing between $5 - $1,000 each -- challenging the 750 members of the congregation to do something good with the money.
"Big shock, I had one of the $1,000 envelopes to do something for someone in my community. Talk about pressure," church member Annett Vanderberg said.
The church gave away a total of $10,000.
Pastor Todd Lollis told television station WSB that each member was asked to take an envelope. Among the ground rules -- the money could not go toward family. Instead, it was to be used for good deeds in the Acworth community.
One of those blessed in the community was a husband who had just lost his job and had several medical bills piling up.
Members will also write about their experiences and the stories will be posted on the church's website.
