One of the two Planned Parenthood affiliates in North Carolina has filed a federal lawsuit over the state's new budget because it cuts all government funding to the abortion provider.
The lawsuit seeks to strip the measure from the budget, which was written by Republicans.
State Republicans, who now control the General Assembly for the first time in more than a century, have barred the abortion provider from receiving any contracts or grants from the state's healthy agency.
Similar efforts to cut off funds to Planned Parenthood have taken place in Kansas and Indiana.
Planned Parenthood contends they are being punished for advocating abortion-rights. They say the move violates its free-speech protections.
