When people go fishing, many hope for a big catch. But a couple of California fishermen recently got a little more than they bargained for.
Scotty Westgaard and David Saldamando were spending their weekend fishing off the coast of Santa Barbara, Calif., when they unexpectedly found themselves reeling in a shark.
"All of a sudden, that reel starts screaming to get you excited," Saldamando said.
That's when the situation got a little scary.
"Right then, the shark just bucks," Westgaard recalled the incident, which was caught on camera. "I can't get enough leverage. I was in the water."
"Once you're in the water, it's a different scenario," he said. "Once you see that shot of the shark underwater... could take out Achilles or thigh"
Although the shark was dangerously close, Westgaard was eventually able to make it back into the kayak.
He wasn't hurt but he says he was a little embarrassed.
