Bishop Eddie Long is forming a satellite church in Birmingham, Ala., just weeks after settling charges brought against him of sexual misconduct.
Long made the announcement Sunday that his New Birth Missionary Baptist Church located in suburban Atlanta, Ga., is starting another church.
The announcement came just weeks after the Lithonia, Ga.-based megachurch said they were also starting a satellite church in Denver. New Birth also has locations in Charlotte, N.C., and Oakland, Calif.
The new churches will be called New Birth Birmingham and New Birth Denver.
Long's announcement defies critics who have said the New Birth church was collapsing in the wake of a sex scandal involving four young men who accused the pastor of sexual misconduct.
In his sermon, Long also mentioned that the church had been audited for the past two years.
"We just got our audit back, certified audit back from 2010 and 2009; we already had 2010 totally clean audit from an independent auditing firm," Long said.
"All your money is being done right and calculated right," he said.
Long then asked parishioners with deep pockets to make larger donations as a seed for the ministry, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The announcements about the new satellite churches came just weeks after Long arrived at a settlement with the four young men. All four plaintiffs were former members of New Birth.
