A California woman who escaped a fiery car crash unharmed says she's alive today because of her faith in God and a miraculous rescue.
Laurie Wood was on the road, planning to visit her Marine son before he deployed to Afghanistan, when she noticed something in her car's path.
"It was black. I thought it was the tire tread," Wood said.
She swerved hard to avoid the object, but as a result, her car rolled over into a ditch and landed on its side.
Wood was hanging by her seat belt when she heard a voice.
"He said, 'You've got to get out of there now! You're on fire!'" she recalled. "I'm not sure what he did, but he ended up pulling me out."
When firefighter Matt Whitendale arrived on the scene, he found Wood outside the burning car, but the mystery rescuer was gone.
"The driver's seat and pretty much around the driver's seat was melted," he said. "If she was in that seat while the fire was burning, she would have gotten burned pretty good."
Wood and her husband Daryl later saw the remains of the vehicle.
"I had a canvas bag that had some books and my camera and all kinds of stuff and it was melted," Wood said.
But her Bible was nearly untouched. Wood said she received it as a gift last fall when she first attended a church in Fresno.
"Nobody could ever tell me that Jesus wasn't sitting next to me that day in the car," she said.
"The Bible alone blew me away," Daryl Wood added. "That's the only thing -- the only thing that hadn't gotten burnt."
"Since we've been going to church I've seen a lot of things," Daryl continued, But that right there and seeing her come out of that car (is amazing)."
