Communities across the country are working to send United States troops a little piece of home this holiday season with the annual "Trees for Troops" program.
Christmas tree farmers will donate thousands of fresh cut trees to be delivered to military bases in the U.S. and overseas.
In Virginia, Valley Star Tree Farm is matching every tree donated. Owner David Thomas said he knows he and his neighbors are sending more than just a tree.
"We're sending them our support. We're sending them our love," Thomas explained.
"It feels great to me and I know that people that participate in the program -- it's a good feeling for them too," he added. "And hopefully it's a good feeling for the troops that receive these trees."
This year, 17,000 trees are expected to be donated nationwide. That would lead to more than 100,000 trees being donated since the program began in 2005.
