Focus on the Family founder and child psychologist Dr. James Dobson is in stable condition after suffering several broken bones from a horseback-riding accident over the weekend.
"His spirits are good at this early stage in his recovery," Dobson's daughter, Danae, said in a statement on Family Talk's website. "He even ate a hamburger yesterday, just twenty-four hours after his accident."
Dr. Dobson, 75, fell from his horse Saturday while vacationing in Montana with his wife, Shirley and son, Ryan. According to Family Talk co-host LuAnne Crane, he fractured his scapula and broke seven ribs.
Danae Dobson said her father suffered no internal bleeding or other complications from the accident but will remain hospitalized two more days.
The family is asking Family Talk supporters and listeners to keep Dr. Dobson in their prayers.
"He will no doubt be in a lot of discomfort in the coming weeks and would covet your continued prayers as he moves toward a full recovery," his daughter said.
Dobson resigned from Focus on the Family in 2010 to start a new radio program, Family Talk, in California.
His successor, Focus President Jim Daly, says his former boss is expected to "make a full recovery."
