Returning home from a deployment is exciting for American service members.
But one Indiana soldier got more than a warm welcome when she stepped off the plane Saturday at Indianapolis International Airport. She got a proposal.
Indiana National Guard Staff Sgt. Jesse Fordyce, brought a lot of support with him to the airport to ask for girlfriend and fellow soldier Kelly Osborn's hand in marriage.
With his family and friends holding up a marriage proposal banner, Fordyce got down on one knee.
"I did say yes, numerous times," said a delighted Osborn. "I did say yes....I think before he asked."
"I was shocked," she added.
"It's very, very exciting she's found a wonderful man and we're excited," Osborn's sister Holly Nunemaker said.
"They've given so much to our country and all of us. We've all seen them go through so much when Jesse was injured and everything," Fordyce's mom, Kenna, said.
"Kelly is just a great soldier, too," she added. "(I) just couldn't be happier for both of them."
Fordyce, an Iraq veteran and Purple Heart recipient, said he is relieved she said yes and is happy they are now engaged.
The couple hopes to set a date and get married within the next six months.
