Mississippi's Republican governor had harsh words for Democratic lawmakers in his state, saying their life's goal was to kill the unborn.

"Their one mission in life is to abort children, is to kill children in the womb," Gov. Phil Bryant said on the Internet talk show of Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association.

The state House Democratic leader said Bryant's comments went "totally, totally too far."

Bryant's remarks come just days after the governor signed a law that could effectively shut down Mississippi's only remaining abortion clinic.

The law requires doctors who perform abortions at a clinic to be certified OB-GYNs with admitting privileges at a local hospital.
