The conservative film "2016: Obama's America" expanded from limited theaters to a nationwide release over the weekend -- and surprised Hollywood with a $6.2 million finish.
The documentary, which is based on the book by Dinesh D'souza, Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream, ended the weekend at No. 8.

It was a commendable performance considering popular films like Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables 2" and "The Bourne Legacy" were still playing on more than one screen in most theaters.
"Obama's America" has earned $9 million since its initial release, making the film the highest grossing conservative political documentary ever.
D'souza, who co-directed the film, has called President Barack Obama "the architect of American decline."
The film delves into Obama's past and examines what U.S. policies may look like by 2016 if he's re-elected.
