Newly minted Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant unabashedly quoted the Bible in his inaugural address Tuesday after being sworn in to office.
Citing the book of Isaiah, Bryant told Mississippi residents they were a people of faith who would "soar on wings like eagles, who will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not grow faint."
The new governor also called on churches and families to help end the state's high rate of teen pregnancy.
"My fellow Mississippians, it is true that in years past our troubles have risen around us like the rising water," he said, referencing Hurricane Katrina and last spring's Mississippi floods.
"But we have persevered," he added. "And each time we have climbed to the new perspective of that higher ground."
