New York City police arrested a city councilman and three ministers who were protesting the possible eviction of local worship services from public buildings.
Councilman Fernando Cabrera and six other demonstrators were charged Thursday with trespassing. The seven were arrested when they refused to move from the entrance of the city's Law Department.
About 25 people, mostly pastors, were involved in the demonstration.
Currently, around 60 congregations meet in rented New York City public schools.
Last month, the city's Department of Education told the churches they must stop holding worship services in schools after Feb. 12.
The department cited separation of church and state and a recent court decision.
The New York City Housing Authority also plans to review its policy on renting space to outside groups, including five churches.
