Complaint Sparks Probe on Gay Parenting Study

A gay blogger's complaint about a professor's research on same-sex parenting has sparked an inquiry by the University of Texas.

Dr. Mark Regnerus, an associate professor of sociology at UT, published a study in last's month's Social Science Research journal. The study found that adults with gay parents tend to struggle more with mental health issues-- and have less success economically.

In response, Scott Rose, who writes about LGBT issues for a blog called "The New Civil Rights Movement," complained to the president of the university that Regnerus had committed scientific misconduct by creating a study "to make gay people look bad."

The University of Texas has asked a panel of professors to look into Regnerus's research.

A spokesman told CBN News that UT launches inquiries in response to all allegations of scientific misconduct. The panel will decide by the end of August whether a full-blown investigation is merited.

Regnerus told the American-Statesman in Austin, Texas, that his study followed standard protocols for scholarly research.
