A Virginia fitness club is redefining what it means to be a family by allowing homosexuals to be included on a "family membership."
The change in policy comes after two gay men, William Trinkle and Juan Granados, sued the Roanoke Athletics Club after their "family" membership was revoked. The club said they didn't meet the organization's traditional definition of family.
But the men gained public support when the media reported their 2-year-old son was blocked from using the swimming pool during this hot summer.
They were then able to gather 40,000 online petition signatures to pressure the club to back down.
In the end, that's just what the club's parent company, Carilion Clinic, chose to do. The new policy includes renaming the "family membership" to a "household membership."
