Holiday travelers will breath a little easier at the pump this Fourth of July.
Gas is now an average $3.33 per gallon, down from almost $4 in early April.
AAA projects that some 42 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles this holiday week.
"Although economic growth remains weak across the globe, Americans have been spurred on by lower gas prices and are planning on traveling in record numbers," Stephanie Milani, public affairs specialist for AAA Tennessee, said in the statement.
If the predictions come true, this would be the third consecutive year of travel growth after declines in 2008 and 2009.
