Military Members March in San Diego Gay Parade

Gay military members marched in uniform in San Diego's gay pride parade this weekend.

Military policy generally bans uniformed troops from marching in parades, saying that while in uniform, personnel cannot appear to endorse or provide a political platform.

But the Defense Department bent the rules for Saturday's San Diego event because of its national attention.

Dozens of soldiers, sailors, and Marines marched alongside an old Army truck decorated with a "Freedom to Serve" banner and a rainbow flag.
