A Florida mother made the ultimate sacrifice for her child, giving up her own life for her little girl.

Heather Town was killed on Sunday as she protected her 3-year-old daughter in a tornado.

According to WTVT-TV in Tampa Bay, Fla., a tornado caused by Tropical Storm Debby lifted their mobile home off its foundation, and threw the mother and daughter nearly 200 yards.

Rescuers heard the little girl crying and found the pair in nearby woods covered with debris and barbed wire.

The mother was holding the child, Ann Marie, so tightly that the child's ribs and pelvis were broken.

Ann Marie is recovering and in stable condition at a local hospital.
