New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is proclaiming Friday "National Donut Day."
The event comes as Bloomberg launches a campaign to ban big sugary drinks in The Big Apple.
The mayor said he's just trying to fight obesity with his sweet beverage ban. But opponents say it's not the government's place to tell people what they can and cannot drink.
Regarding the donut festivities, Bloomberg told ABC News it's much harder to regulate food. So for now, New York's 75th annual donut celebration will go ahead as planned.
