"Rock of Ages," the movie, not the hymn, debuts in theaters across the nation Friday.
The star-studded musical comedy tells the tale of how a young woman leaves her small Oklahoma town to pursue dreams of fame and fortune in Hollywood.
Despite its name, Plugged In Online film critic Adam R. Holz suggests the film is anything but reverent.
"I'm not sure I've encountered a movie recently that stomps on the salacious hyperbole button quite at hard as Rock of Ages does," he writes. "It lays hold of every '80s rock star cliché, every debauched tale of Behind the Music excess (sans drug use), and amps them up to circus-like levels."
