The major national college men's basketball tournament known as "March Madness" began last week at four sites across the nation.

And once again it brought some upsets in the early rounds.

Norfolk State shocked Missouri before losing to Florida, and Lehigh stunned Duke before getting beat by Xavier.

The next round of the tournament, known as the Sweet 16, begins Thursday.

The state of Ohio set a record this year. It's the first time one state has had four teams in the Sweet 16. They include Ohio State, Ohio University, Xavier, and Cincinnati.

Both the Big East and the Big Ten conferences also have four teams in the next round, including Wisconsin.

All but two of the 16 teams in the regional semifinals will be from major conferences.

Following are this week's matchups:

  • South -- No. 1 Kentucky vs. No. 4 Indiana and No. 3 Baylor vs. No. 10 Xavier
  • East -- No. 1 Syracuse vs. No. 4 Wisconsin and No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 6 Cincinnati
  • Midwest -- No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 13 Ohio and No. 2 Kansas vs. No. 11 North Carolina State
  • West -- No. 1 Michigan State vs. No. 4 Louisville and No. 3 Marquette vs. No. 7 Florida

Those 14 power-conference teams have a combined 93 Final Four appearances and 33 national titles.
