Wycliffe Bible Translators USA is mourning the loss of Senior Vice President Forrest W. Flaniken. He was killed Oct. 14 after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson said 18-year-old Anthony Michael Moffa was driving his car in the same direction as Flaniken when he lost control and struck him from behind, according to Charisma News.
Flanniken, who was wearing a helmet, was killed when the impact of the crash knocked him off his bicycle.
The spokesperson said Moffa was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and leaving the scene of a crash.
Wycliffe USA President said the entire company is devastated by the accident.
"Forrest was a great champion for Wycliffe and a tireless advocate for the millions of people around the world who await God's Word in their heart language. Our thoughts and prayers are with Forrest's beloved wife, Kristen; their sons, Chipper, Nelson and Spencer; and their daughter-in-law, Kristen. We pray that they would feel God's peace and comfort during this difficult time." President Bob Creson said.
Flaniken had been at Wycliffe for nearly 22 years. He first joined the organization in 1992 after a career in the manufacturing industry.
Flaniken was active in his local church, and was an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University's Orlando campus. He also coached little league baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Kristen, and their children; sons Forrest III "Chipper," Nelson and Spencer; and a daughter-in-law, Kristen.
