Pro-life groups are calling for new abortion regulations in Illinois after a 24-year-old woman who visited a Planned Parenthood clinic in Chicago last week and later died.
CBS News reports that medical documents now suggest a "botched" abortion procedure killed Tonya Reaves.
Those records show an ambulance rushed her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital because she was bleeding after a second trimester abortion at the Planned Parenthood Clinic on Michigan Avenue.
She later died in surgery.
Troy Newman , president of Operation Rescue and Pro-life Nation, joined the call for new abortion regulations in the state.
"It is clear that Planned Parenthood botched the procedure that resulted in uncontrolled bleeding, then failed to treat the hemorrhage while Reaves was at their clinic, allowing her to bleed for over five hours before finally calling for help," Newman said. "There can be no doubt that this delay contributed to her death."
Reaves' family has hired an attorney and is considering legal action.
