Same-sex couples in Rhode Island, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C., are starting to get married.

Laws legalizing same-sex marriage went into effect at midnight July 31.

In Minnesota, dozens of couples lined up at City Hall and the Mall of America for ceremonies starting at 12:01.

Rhode Island and Minnesota are the 12th and 13th states to recognize gay marriage.
