Pa. Governor Sues to Block County's Gay Marriages

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has filed a lawsuit to block same-sex marriage licenses from being issued in Montgomery County.

A county clerk has issued more than 150 marriage licenses to gay couples since July. State attorneys say those licenses are not legitimate because state legislation defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

"This case is about one thing: whether a local official may willfully disregard a statute based on his personal legal opinion that the statute is unconstitutional," they wrote.

The clerk is scheduled to appear in court next week. A ruling against him could invalidate those licenses he issued.
