Teacher Gives Students Gift of Giving

If you're looking for a long-lasting gift you can give kids this Christmas season think about the gift of giving.

That simple, yet profound, present is what a South Dakota teacher  gave her students.

Karri Weiman gave each of her third graders an envelope with five dollars, asking them to give it away to someone or something in need.

One student is giving her five dollars to the Ronald McDonald House. The girl had three heart surgeries and her family stayed there while she was getting treatment.

"I really just want to thank them for taking care of us while we were in there," Madison Pankratz said."It feels like I can make a difference. Even though I had heart surgery, you can do a lot!"

"Sometimes we need stop and take time to really focus on what's important," Weiman said.

The teacher said she hopes to change their focus from just receiving to what they can give.
