Colo. Pastor: Our Problem is Violence, Not Guns

Brady Boyd, senior pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, has witnessed gun violence first-hand.

Five years ago, a gunman opened fire at New Life, killing two and injuring two others.

Boyd talked with CBN News recently about the Newtown, Conn., shooting and the debate in Washington over gun control.

He said now is the time for churches to focus on violence in our culture and what families can do to change the environment in their own homes.

"Gun control is not an issue that should be on the front line of the churches," Boyd told CBN News. "Violence is another topic. We should be talking about violence."

"In fact, two Sundays ago I stood in front of my congregation and I challenged the parents who are allowing these violent games in their homes," he said.

Boyd said he's more closely monitoring the TV shows that he watches. He added that now is also a good time for churches to talk openly about mental health --and begin to work at de-stigmatizing the issue.
