Seventy-five people died as a result of attacks at faith-based institutions in 2012 in the United States, a 36 percent increase over the previous year, church violence researcher Carl Chinn reports.
According to his website, Chinn has been compiling statistics on such attacks since 1999.
He reported there were 135 "deadly force incidents" last year. More than half of the attacks were attributed to domestic violence that carried over to the church, personal disagreements, and robberies.
"There is no agenda to prove anything other than the importance of intentional security and safety by every ministry - regardless of size," Chinn states on his website about his reasons for compiling the data.
