Thousands of pro-lifers packed the state capital in Texas for their state's annual rally for life.
They celebrated victories, like the passage of a Texas sonogram bill, which requires women to get an ultrasound before an abortion.
In northern California, some 40,000 showed up at Civic Center Plaza for their ninth annual March for Life. Those in the movement know their work is far from over.
"We can't be lukewarm about the life issue," pro-life advocate Jennifer O'Neill said.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry called the anniversary a "tragic time for our nation's own moral wilderness."
"When the Israelites went out into the wilderness they wandered lost for 40 years. Last week America began its 40th year lost under the rule of Roe vs. Wade," Perry said. "It's a tragic time for our nation's own moral wilderness."
Gov. Perry is pushing for a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
