A parent's nightmare has become a miraculous testimony.
Earlier in July, 6-year-old Nathan Woessner was buried alive under a sand dune at Illinois's Indiana Dunes for more than three hours.
"I remember the paramedic coming in and he said 'he's alive,' and I don't remember anything he said after that," his mother, Faith Woessner, told ABC News Chicago affiliate WLS. "Those were the sweetest words I've ever heard."
Today, he's back with his family after making a complete recovery. On Sunday, he made his first public appearance in church with his mom and dad.
His mother said God was with Nathan and those working to save him.
"They'll never know how much we appreciate what they did for us, they'll never know. Thank you," she said.
Authorities say Nathan survived because of an air pocket in the sand. He said he remembers nothing of the ordeal.
